Gratitude is Essential in Your Life – Try this Simple Daily Exercise to See Why

Giving thanks and being grateful for all you have is one of the most simplest and important ways to leading a more positive and balanced life. It can have such a huge impact and is something we should all make the effort to do on a daily basis to lead a more content life. Reggie always keeps a gratitude journal next to his bed so that last thing at night he can jot down the things that he was grateful for that day.

Gratitude is a thankful appreciation for what you have received in life. Life isn’t easy at times and sometimes it’s easy to be ruled by negative emotions because you’re going through a tough time. However, remember that no matter how bad your situation may seem, there are so many things to be grateful for in life. When you spend time each day acknowledging all that is good in your life, you’ll soon see that there is more good than you thought, and you’ll find that any negative emotions start to disappear. By expressing gratitude you can increase your personal happiness, sleep better, be more motivated, improve your relationships, feel healthier, more relaxed and lift your vibrations. This is why it is is important to get into the habit of  writing down something you are grateful for every day.

The act of writing down what you are grateful for may seem like a small act but the process is so much deeper than that. When we ask ourselves what we are grateful for, we drop into our heart space and visualise our gratitude, reflecting on why it matters to us. This act of visualising and reflecting comes from a deeper place within us, one that affects our mind body and soul. By taking the time to feel your gratitude and opening your heart, you are lifting your vibrations and injecting that feel good factor.

So Reggie would like you to get into the habit of keeping a gratitude journal. Choose when is the best time for you to write down your thoughts and feelings and stick to that time each day. Reggie likes to write his thoughts down last thing at night. Simply write down the best thing that happened that day and why it made you grateful. You can be as brief or as detailed as you like. If there are more than one options then write them all down.

So what should I write down? Try and write a new experience every day. When you first begin it will most probably be a very easy exercise, but you might find after a while you get “gratitude block” and feel like you are running out of things to be grateful for. At this point it is time to get creative and really look at the world around you and really think about things that have happened that day. You can be grateful for even the smallest of things such as using a pen that someone gave you which stirred up a happy memory, seeing or hearing something that triggered a happy memory, feelings you had during the day about something that you are looking forward to, meeting someone who reminded you of a good moment in your life… the list really is endless. The most important thing is to ‘feel before you write’.

Try it out for yourself and see what a difference it makes. I have been doing this for years now and it really does make a big difference. It is also lovely to look back over all the happy times so that when you are feeling a little sad you have something that will instantly pick you up. So what are you waiting for, go grab a notepad and pen and make this a new daily ritual. You are amazing, don’t ever forget that.

Much love to you
