Eating Healthy food is extremely important. Think of your body like an engine. An engine, to work to its full potential, is kept clean and filled with the right fuel. It works the same for our bodies. To perform the best we possibly can it is important we only eat food that will replenish us and make our bodies happy. As parents, you need to keep yourself in tip top shape and help your children to do the same. Here are 6 tips on how to do just that
Parents control the supply lines – You decide which foods to buy and when to serve them. Although your child may keep asking for unhealthy snacks, As a parent, you should be in charge when deciding which foods are regularly stocked in the house. Children won’t refuse to eat the more healthy options. They will eat what’s available in the cupboard and fridge at home. If they have a favourite food that isn’t all that good for them, you can still buy it as a treat now and then.
Start them young -A child will decide what kind of food they prefer early in life, so make sure you are offering a variety of different foods. Even as babies and toddlers, they know their likes and dislikes although you may need to give your child a new food a few times for a child to accept it. Don’t force your child to eat, but offer them a few bites. With older kids, ask them to try just one bite.
Rewrite the kids’ menu – Who says kids only want to eat hot dogs, pizza and burgers? When going out for a meal, let your children experiment with new foods and they might surprise you with their eagerness to try new cuisines. You could let them try a bite or two of whatever you ordered or try ordering a small portion for them to try.
Food is not love – Find better ways to say “I love you.” When foods are used to reward kids and show affection, they may start eating food as a way to deal with stress or other emotions. Offer hugs, appreciation, and attention instead of food. Because food will not solve your problems but a healthy diet, lots of activity and keeping your vibration raised will ensure that you are on top of your game.
Children do as you do – Be a role model and eat healthy yourself. When teaching children good eating habits, try to set the best example possible. Choose nutritious snacks and always eat regularly and light. It’s better for your body to graze food all day rather than eat three square meals as it is harder for your body to digest.
Limit TV and computer time – When you do, you’ll avoid boredom eating and encourage more activity. Research has shown that children who stopped watching so much TV also reduced their percentage of body fat. When the TV isn’t always playing in the background, they’ll find more active things to do rather than distract themselves from the world. And limiting “screen time” means you’ll have more time to be active together. And choosing a sport or any activity to play with your child is a great way to bond and connect with them.
